"We must walk consciously only part way toward our goal, and then Leap into the dark to find our Success."
-Henry David Thoreau
This work is one of Collins first "Chalkboard Paintings."
Collins desired to have the look of a chalk drawing - the memories of a blackboard - the awe of a child in seeing something magical.
Yet, chalk is temporary - even the strongest fixative does not ensure the painting will last. So, Collins experimented for days, months, and years…
What has resulted is Collins' own version of pointillism. The repeated touches of singular points and strokes… which in turn create the look and feel of chalk, but create a more permanent form to last generations.
Collins first creates the drawing in chalk, then transforms it painstakingly with paint into something even more magical.
The Great Leap is a beautiful representation of how we achieve our greatest dreams, our most far-flung goals, and our highest calling.
The two halves represent this beautiful transition… from one form to another… seamlessly becoming something new.
You know it is within you, that leap into the great unknown.
That leap into your future.
